After losing Jahan Dotson to the NFL Draft, Penn State has found an upperclassman receiver from WKU via the transfer portal. Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich has liked what he’s seen from Mitchell Tinsley so far.
Out of Lee’s Summit High School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Tinsley was a 0-star recruit with no offers per the 247Sports Composite. He then went on to Hutchinson Community College before ending up at WKU in 2020. After a great 2021 season for the Hilltoppers where he had 1,402 yards receiving with 14 touchdowns, Tinsley hit the transfer portal and decided on Penn State as his destination.
Here’s what Yurcich and head coach James Franklin had to say about per Ben Jones of StateCollege.com.
““He’s a really experienced guy who comes really game ready,” said Yurcich. “He has a lot of experience, I don’t think there’s going to be a moment where he’s wide-eyed, I think he’s going to be anticipating tough competition and thrive in that type of setting. He’s a dependable type guy although the system is new to him, once we get through the growing pains I think you’re going see sound fundamentals. He’s a ready-made wide receiver.”
Franklin likes what he brings to the table as well, and believes he will be a great fit for the team.
“Football wise and socially all those other things, I think he’s a great fit,” Franklin said. “I think that’s been good. It’s what you’d expect with a guy that’s played as much football as he has. He’s polished. He’s poised. He’s got really good ball skills. He knows how to run routes. I think it’s been really good for him from a testing perspective, to be able to see the guys he’s competing against what they run, what they jump all those types of things to kind of test kind of his some of his explosive numbers and where he may want to improve.”
