Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis was taken off ventilator and is “on the road to recovery” after saving his children from a riptide last week, according to his girlfriend.

Hillis was a former NFL star with the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, among other teams. He was determined to be in critical condition after last week’s events.

Hillis’s children were saved unharmed and did not require medical attention thanks to Hillis’ actions. He reportedly suffered kidney and lung issues after jumping into the water.

Hillis played a total of 7 years in the NFL, totaling 2,832 rushing yards with 23 touchdowns across his career.

Truly fantastic news!
