Every year, college football witnesses several players enjoy a breakout season and become household names across the country. It’s just another aspect of the sport that makes it so enjoyable each and every year.
Who are the candidates with the best chance to have a breakout year in 2021?
Pro Football Focus (PFF) named 25 candidates with the best chance to have a big year this fall. Five of those prospects came out of the B1G — two from Ohio State, two from Maryland and one from Minnesota.
Out of the B1G, PFF tabs Minnesota defensive end Boye Mafe as the candidate most likely to have a breakout year in 2021. Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR) and Zach Harrison (DE), as well as Maryland’s Rakim Jarrett (WR) and Taulia Tagovailoa (QB) were also included.
Here’s where those five players ranked:

4. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
15. Zach Harrison, DE, Ohio State
18. Rakim Jarrett, WR, Maryland
