DJ Durkin wanted to slow down the Tyrrell Pigrome hype train.

What he did on Saturday night won’t slow that down one bit.

The Terps were in need of an answer in double overtime after forcing a UCF fumble. When Maryland quarterback Perry Hills landed awkwardly on his shoulder, Maryland turned to its true freshman quarterback to lead a scoring drive.

Instead, Pigrome did it all on the first play.

He scampered in for a 24-yard touchdown run and gave Maryland a dramatic walk-off victory in Orlando:

What patience by Pigrome. What a moment for a kid who obviously looks like he has plenty more of those in his future.

The Terps medical staff will turn its attention to Hills, who was noticeably shaken up at the end of the game. Before he went out, Hills delivered yet another interception-free game and he rushed for 64 yards and a score.

Even if Hills is the starter moving forward, Maryland will obviously want to draw up some sort of package for Pigrome.

The Terps are now 3-0 for the first time since 2013, and even more impressive, that’s as many wins as Maryland had all of last year.

Can we start Durkin’s campaign for B1G Coach of the Year yet?
