PJ Fleck, Minnesota agree to new multi-year contract extension

PJ Fleck is getting paid. The Minnesota head coach has agreed to a new seven-year deal with the Golden Gophers.
He has been the head coach of the Golden Gophers since 2017. Fleck has the most wins in a six year span with the program since 1905.
Here is a statement from Fleck on the new extension per a Minnesota press release:
“This is all about cultural sustainability. We have talked about that from day one, and this new contract is a commitment to continuing to change our best academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. It is also a commitment to our elite staff and our tremendous fans. During the last six years, we have been able to do some amazing things at Minnesota, some of which have not been accomplished in more than 115 years. It is a tremendous honor to lead this football program, and our goal is to compete for championships every year.”
Fleck has compiled a 43-27 record (.614) during his time in Minneapolis. His best season came in 2019 when he led the Golden Gophers to a 11-2 record and a win over Auburn in the Outback Bowl. He went 8-4 this past season and has his team booked for the Pinstripe Bowl against Syracuse.
Fleck’s longevity in Minnesota should only help moving forward. The Golden Gophers can now go and recruit with a stabilized coach in a B1G west division that is often up for grabs. Purdue ended up being the representative this season before falling to Michigan in the B1G Championship Game.
