One of the top quarterbacks in the Pac-12 has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Stanford’s K.J. Costello has entered his name into the transfer database and will explore his options to play elsewhere. Costello was a star in 2018, but was hindered by injuries throughout the 2019 season.

Costello would be a graduate transfer and would be immediately eligible at another FBS program. He would have one year of eligibility remaining.

Entering his name in the transfer portal doesn’t necessarily mean Costello is leaving Stanford. If he so chooses, he could still return to the Cardinal. However, it does mean he’s exploring opportunities to play his final year elsewhere.

In 2018, Costello was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection, throwing for 3,540 yards and 29 touchdowns with a completion rate over 65 percent. He was considered one of the best returning quarterbacks in college football for the 2019 season.

Unfortunately for Costello, a concussion in the season opener against Northwestern, a thumb injury midway through the year and other issues allowed the quarterback to play in just five games.

He finished with 1,038 yards six touchdowns and three interceptions.
