Penn State hit with record $2.4 million fine by feds investigating Sandusky

According to the Associated Press, Penn State was fined a record $2.4 million by the U.S. Department of Education for violating a law that requires colleges and universities to report campus crimes and warn people if their safety is threatened.
Federal investigators on the Jerry Sandusky case made that ruling on Thursday. That came after a five-year investigation into how the university handled complaints filed against Sandusky before he was charged with child molestation.
Investigators found that Penn State violated the Clery Act for failing to warn students and faculty about Sandusky’s forthcoming charges. The AP reported it was the largest fine ever for violating that law.
That was a week removed from former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary receiving $7.3 million in a defamation case against the university for the way it addressed his testimony against Sandusky.
Penn State did not have an official statement on either matter.
