Tyler Trent made such an impact on Purdue University, college football and the rest of the world, that the football program is doing everything it can to honor him.

Before the start of the season, Purdue is reconstructing its student section entrance and renaming it the Tyler Trent Student Gate. There will also be a plaque outside the entrance to tell Trent’s story and explain how impacted so many lives.

In addition to the new gate, Purdue’s football captains for the 2019 season will be named the Tyler Trent Team Captains. On Friday, the Boilermakers announced which six players will have the honor.

Three offensive and three defensive players will be leaders for the Boilers. Here they are:

  • Brycen Hopkins, TE
  • Elijah Sindelar, QB
  • Grant Hermanns, OL
  • Navon Mosley, S
  • Markus Bailey, LB
  • Lorenzo Neal, DL

Purdue is coming off a 6-7 season that resulted in a trip to the Music City Bowl. It was the second-straight bowl visit for the Boilermakers.

Purdue opens the 2019 campaign on Friday, Aug. 30 against Nevada in Reno.
