Purdue basketball starter out for at least 3 games with COVID-19

Purdue starting guard Sasha Stefanovic will miss the next three games due to a positive COVID-19 test, the program has announced.

Here’s a statement from Purdue:

According to the Big Ten’s COVID-19 protocols, Stefanovic will have miss the next 17 days. That time span covers Purdue’s upcoming games vs. No. 7 Michigan, No. 17 Minnesota and Maryland.

Purdue is scheduled to face Northwestern on Feb. 6, which is the next game Stefanovic is theoretically eligible to play in.

The Boilermakers are coming off a 67-65 upset victory over Ohio State. Stefanovic scored 15 points and added four rebounds as well.

For the season, he’s averaging 11.1 points and 2.4 assists per game. He’s also one of the best shooters in the Big Ten, hitting 3-pointers at a 45.6 percent clip on 5.6 attempts per game.

It’s unclear who will step into Stefanovic’s spot in the starting lineup as he’s started in all 16 games so far this season.

Purdue and Michigan face off tonight at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
