Purdue commit named Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Purdue commit and Indiana native Caleb Furst is adding another honor to his collection.

Friday, Furst was named the Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year. The Fort Wayne product adds that to a list of accomplishments, including being name the state’s Mr. Basketball following the 2020-21 season.

Furst is a 4-star forward who is heading to Purdue. He was ranked as the No. 62 overall prospect in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

According to WANE.com, Furst is the first player from Blackhawk Christian to claim the award. The honor recognizes outstanding athletic excellence and high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

Leading Blackhawk Christian to an Indiana state championship at the Class 2A level, Furst averaged 21.4 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game.

Furst is part of a three-man recruiting class heading to Purdue in 2021. The Boilermakers’ class ranks No. 7 in the B1G and No. 36 nationally.
