Purdue senior linebacker announces ‘successful surgery’ after fall camp injury

Purdue senior linebacker Semisi Fakasiieiki has undergone surgery to repair an injured right ankle, he announced on Friday evening.
Fakasiieiki suffered the injury on Monday. He’s reportedly expected to miss the full 2021 season.
Despite being a fifth-year senior, Fakasiieiki gave no indication that he’ll be walking away from the game due to this injury. Here’s his announcement:

Fakasiieiki has been at Purdue since 2016. He didn’t play at all during his first two years in the program, but eventually worked his way into the rotation in 2018.
Since then, he’s been an important reserve for the Boilermakers. He’s made five career starts, including one in 2020. Last season, he was credited with six tackles, including three vs. Illinois.
He was projected to be a starting linebacker for Purdue this season.
The Compton, Calif., native has 52 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack in his Purdue career.
The Boilermakers open their 2021 campaign against Oregon State on Sept. 4.
