Purdue’s blowout loss to Minnesota worst in 80 years

It’s safe to say this was not the kind of performance Purdue was hoping for heading into Saturday’s game.
The Boilermakers were riding a streak of five wins in their last six games with an outside shot at winning the B1G West entering the weekend. Unfortunately, that was not meant to be as Minnesota secured a statement victory in dominating fashion over Purdue.
The Golden Gophers cruised to a 41-10 victory, including 28 points scored in the second half, as Purdue’s offense was rendered ineffective. Minnesota’s defense limited Purdue to just 233 yards of offense. The lone touchdown scored by the Boilermakers also came with 5:28 left in the game, well after the outcome had been determined.
It was an old-fashioned blowout in the truest sense of the word, and it is one of the worst losses in school history. According to the BTN Stats Guys, the loss is the 2nd-largest margin of victory ever over Purdue and the worst since the 1930s:
