Purdue’s David Bell had one of the best non-catches you’ll see this season

David Bell nearly had the catch of the college football season, a one-handed grab in the back of the endzone that was just inches away from being an instant highlight.

Almost. So close.

Then again, if onlys and justs were candies and nuts, then everyday would be Erntedankfest. Dwight Schrute has a point. Close, but no touchdown.

One play after Jackson Anthrop blocked Nebraska’s punt, Purdue took over on the Cornhuskers 9-yard line with 19 seconds left in the second quarter and took an immediate shot at the end zone. Jack Plummer floated a nice ball to Bell who extended one arm and brought down the pass, just barely seeing his right foot come down out of bounds in the back of the end zone.

Purdue would end up settling for a field goal to cut into Nebraska’s lead, making the score 27-13. Bell missing out on a highlight reel touchdown also cost his team some badly needed points as well.

The game seems to be a carryover for both teams. Nebraska played well in a 26-20 loss to Iowa and has been playing better football the past couple of weeks. Purdue appears to be in a cloud after a home loss to Rutgers where they got badly outplayed in the second half.
