Purdue’s Jeff Brohm provides eligibility update on Iowa transfer DB D.J. Johnson

Former Iowa defensive back D.J. Johnson is one step closer to receiving eligibility for the 2020 season at Purdue.
On Saturday, Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm said that Johnson’s eligibility waiver has been cleared by the NCAA, but the defensive back is still awaiting approval from the B1G. Tom Dienhart of Gold and Black Illustrated reported that Brohm expects the conference to give Johnson the nod.
Johnson, a former 3-star prospect out of Indianapolis, Ind., initially committed to Iowa, where he spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The cornerback was able to make immediate contributions to the Hawkeyes secondary, appearing in 11 games and making one start last fall.

During Iowa’s 10-3 campaign in 2019, Johnson was credited with 14 tackles, 11 solo stops and 2 pass break-ups.
Johnson joined the Hawkeyes as a member of the 2018 recruiting class and was able to maintain his redshirt status that season after appearing in three contests. He didn’t record any statistics.
Purdue, appropriately, is scheduled to open the 2020 season at home against Iowa on Oct. 24. Johnson’s first game as a Boilermaker could come against the Hawkeyes if the B1G approves the waiver.
