Purdue’s TJ Sheffield hauls in ridiculous TD catch from Aidan O’Connell, leaves Music City Bowl with injury

TJ Sheffield made one hell of a play in Thursday’s Music City Bowl, but it unfortunately resulted in him leaving the game with an injury.
In the third quarter, Purdue found itself trailing Tennessee 28-23. On a 3rd-and-goal from the 10-yard line, quarterback Aidan O’Connell threw a fade to Sheffield in the corner of the end zone.
With a Tennessee defender draped all over him, Sheffield was able to make the catch and get a foot down to secure a touchdown for the Boilermakers. The score gave Purdue a 30-28 advantage in the second half.

That reception was Sheffield’s third of the game and his first touchdown grab. He had 61 yards before leaving the game with the injury.
Sheffield stepped up in the Music City Bowl with both David Bell and Milton Wright out.
In the season, Sheffield hauled in 33 catches for 264 yards and 4 touchdowns. He maintained an average of 8 yards per catch during the Boilers’ 8-4 campaign.
