Quarterback Tommy Stevens could play defense and maybe special teams for Penn State

College football saw former Iowa State quarterback Joel Lanning transition to linebacker and succeed this season. Lanning was named a FWAA All-American. Now, Penn State might be doing the same thing with back-up signal caller Tommy Stevens.
Coach James Franklin created a new position titled “Lion”. And in that spot, Stevens was listed as a starter.

JF: Stevens listed as “Lion” on the depth chart because staff wants to list him as a starter. “That’s how we view him, and that’s how his teammates view him.”

If Stevens were to play some linebacker because he certainly has the frame for it, as he stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 228 pounds.
