Quentin Redding is making his mark on the Minnesota return game.
The redshirt freshman is currently averaging 26.0 yards per kickoff return, good for 2nd in the B1G. Redding’s best kick return of the year came in Week 7 against Illinois when he took the second-half kickoff for 92 yards.
Redding has also made an impact on the punt return game, averaging almost 7 yards per return.
Redding is embracing his special teams role in 2022. “You have to be fearless,” said Redding, when discussing what it takes to return punts. “You have to know that you might get hit. At the end of the day, I have to get the ball.”
Redding’s 92-yard kick return against Illinois gave the Golden Gopher offense a much-needed jolt. The return set up a Minnesota TD on the very next play.
“I saw the ball in the air and caught it running,” said Redding, who streaked down the Minnesota sideline following a smartly executed plan. “Everybody did their job on that play, so it’s all credit to them. It was fun getting 92 yards to set our team up for success.”
Redding will have more chances to impact the game in Week 9 when the Golden Gophers welcome Rutgers to town.
