Quintez Cephus escaped serious injury in training camp practice on Tuesday, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced.

Campbell said that he was optimistic that Cephus avoided a major knee injury and it will only be a minor setback for him. Cephus will only miss a short amount of time.

Cephus, a third-year receiver for the Lions, hopes to return to practice soon. The Lions open up the preseason slate on Friday, August 12 against the Atlanta Falcons. It was unclear if Cephus will be ready to return for the preseason opener against the Falcons.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Lions drafted Cephus in the 5th-round out of Wisconsin. He was an impactful wide receiver in college and the Lions hoped his success in Madison would translate to Detroit.

As a rookie, Cephus had 2 touchdowns, 349 receiving yards, and 20 catches. He started to figure out how to play on a professional level. In 2021, he had a similar season to his rookie campaign with 2 touchdowns, 204 receiving yards, and 15 receptions. His 2nd season was cut short with a broken collarbone in the 5th game of the season.

With this latest injury, Cephus will try to stay on the field for as long as he can. Cephus will be a weapon for quarterback Jared Goff in 2022.
