Oregon ran for 253 yards, threw for 253 yards, and held Montana State to just 244 combined yards on Saturday as the seventh-ranked Ducks opened the new year with a resounding 59-13 win.

Balance was the name of the game. Oregon controlled the first quarter, stretched its lead in the second quarter, and kept on the gas in the third. The Ducks scored points on each of their first 9 possessions. After kicking a field goal on their third drive, they ripped off touchdown drives on each of their next 6 possessions. The only drive Oregon didn’t score on? Its final possession of the game, when it took control with 2:15 to play and then killed the entirety of that clock in 4 plays.

Starting quarterback Dante Moore completed 18 of his 23 pass attempts and threw 3 touchdowns. Twelve different players registered a rushing attempt. Tulane transfer Makhi Hughes — one of the best playmakers to hit he transfer market this offseason — only had 1 rushing attempt and the Ducks still topped 250 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Oregon held Montana State to 4.2 yards per play and allowed just 46 rushing yards. A’Mauri Washington had 1.5 tackles for loss and Matayo Uiagalelei recorded 2 sacks.

It was a productive tune-up game ahead of next week’s clash with one of the Big 12’s premier programs. Oklahoma State (1-0) comes to Eugene for a 3:30 p.m. ET kick on CBS next Saturday.
