Rapid Reaction: Peyton Ramsey sparks Indiana’s offense as Hoosiers defeat Virginia
Final score: Indiana 34 Virginia 17
Quick analysis
After opening the season on the wrong foot, the Indiana Hoosiers rebounded nicely for their first win of the season. However, early on, it seemed like Indiana was in for a long day.
Quarterback Richard Lagow and the offense were sluggish. They went either three-and-out or turned over the ball for the majority of the first half. That is, until the Hoosiers made a quarterback change.
Late in the second, Indiana pulled Lagow for Peyton Ramsey. The young signal caller then sparked the Hoosier offense, as he led three straight scoring drives to give Indiana a 17-3 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Ramsey and Indiana were just as electric.
Ramsey completed his second touchdown pass of the day, a 32-yard throw to Donavan Hale and J-Shun Harris returned a punt for a score. Give a lot of credit to the freshman Ramsey for Indiana’s win. He threw for 173, two touchdowns while completing 80 percent of his passes.
Key play: Peyton Ramsey’s 26 yard touchdown run
After leading Indiana to a touchdown a drive earlier, Ramsey helped the Hoosiers score again. This time with his feet.
Ramsey got flushed out of the pocket on second and 17. Instead of throwing it away, Ramsey tucked it and ran it up the left side of the field. There was no one around him.
The young signal went untouched for his first touchdown run of his career.

Stat of the game: 173 yards and two touchdowns through the air and 42 yards and a score on the ground for Peyton Ramsey
Ramsey was not supposed to see the field against Virginia. Last week, Richard Lagow through for more than 400 yards against the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. He was supposed to lead Indiana to its first win. However, that was not the case.
The young quarterback came in and was efficient for the Hoosiers. Ramsey finished the day completing 16-of-20 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. But he also ran the ball 12 times for 42 yards and score. Most importantly, Ramsey did not turnover the ball.
The freshman was certainly the difference maker in this one.
What this means
Plain and simple, Indiana has a quarterback controversy on its hands.
Will it be Lagow or Ramsey for the rest of the season?
After this performance, a lot of Indiana fans will be screaming fro Ramsey. However, Tom Allen will probably rotate the two until one separates himself completely.
As of right now though, the future of the Hoosiers’ quarterback position seems to be in good hands.
