Rece Davis and Pete Thamel went on the ‘College GameDay Podcast’ to talk about the recent College Football Playoff Rankings and if Ohio State can make it in.

The recent rankings have Ohio State at No. 5 with Alabama at No. 6. Davis thinks that both the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide are locked into their spots, but that Ohio State will get a shot if the opportunity presents itself.

“The real truth is (Ohio State and Alabama) are locked into those positions and Ohio State will be the team should a spot open,” said Davis.

Thamel on the other hand is welcoming the chaos of Ohio State or Alabama making it. If TCU loses in the Big 12 Championship, things could get interesting.

“The chaos of Alabama leaping over Ohio State and not obviously playing would (force) Twitter to actually melt down. I am going to stay optimistic. I believe in chaos. I believe enough can happen this weekend that a TCU loss makes it a really riveting debate between them and Ohio State. If TCU played Ohio State tomorrow in Fargo, who is favored and by how much?”

At the end the day Davis doesn’t see any good options for the No. 4 spot if USC loses in the Pac-12 title game. Is Ohio State’s resume good enough to get into the Playoff with a TCU or USC loss?

“I don’t think there are any good options (at No. 4) if USC loses,” said Davis. “Ohio State has a couple of good wins, a couple of really good wins, but that flop at the end. You’re going in off of that, that’s not a good option.”
