Rutgers is trying to expand its reach.
The last few seasons have been fairly difficult for the Scarlet Knights. In Chris Ash’s three seasons as head coach, Rutgers has posted just a 7-29 record with just three B1G wins, including a pair of winless years in conference plays.
The school is willing to do just about anything to rebuild the excitement and enthusiasm for the football program.
On Thursday afternoon, Draper Media posted a photo on Twitter of a Rutgers Football billboard. That’s not too uncommon, as every B1G school promotes its product throughout the state its located.
But the billboard wasn’t located in New Jersey. Or anywhere close, for that matter.
Nope, this Rutgers billboard was spotted in Dallas, Texas, near AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Talk about prime real estate.
Dallas seems like an odd location for a billboard to promote Rutgers football, but hey, it can’t hurt, can it?
Whether or not this was the strategy is unknown, but Rutgers would be wise to utilize its marketing scheme in full force once 2019 hits. It will be the 150th anniversary of the first ever college football game, which featured Princeton and Rutgers on Nov. 6, 1869.
Since Rutgers hasn’t had much success on the field recently, why not promote the history?
Keep an eye out for more Rutgers billboards across the country. If there’s one located in Dallas, they may start popping up other places, too.
