The Redbox Bowl has issued an apology to Cal, Illinois and the fans after a mistake on the merchandise was revealed this week.
Earlier in the week, an image of some of the merchandise for the Redbox Bowl game was released, but the wrong name was used. Instead of Cal, the Redbox Bowl shirt read “Cal State vs. Illinois.” Obviously, that caused quite the stir for fans.
On Thursday, the Redbox sent out a tweet apologizing for the mishap.
“We apologize to Cal, Illinois and fans. The third party merchandise vendor posted unauthorized imagery for the Bowl,” the tweet said. “The vendor did not receive approval from us nor the universities. This vendor manages merchandise for multiple bowls and apologizes for their mistake.”

Not the best way to try and sell merchandise to the fans. But, mistakes happen now and then. It’s unfortunate that this one trickled out.
Cal and Illinois will meet in the Redbox Bowl on Monday, Dec. 30 with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
