Reflecting on his career, Ohio State WR Chris Olave says there are ‘a lot of blessings coming’

Ohio State can recruit whoever it wants from wherever it wants, which has led to recruiting classes recently that are littered with 4- and 5-star talent.

If you want to make it in Columbus, you better come ready to work.

Chris Olave knows that better than anyone. The California native was a 3-star recruit in the 2018 class, ranked the No. 47 player in the state of California and the No. 399 prospect nationally by the 247Sports Composite. He only caught 12 passes during his first season on campus. But Olave kept working. Now he’s a household name among college football fans.

As the senior wideout prepares for what will be his final home game as a Buckeye on Saturday, Olave knows all his work is soon to pay off.

“I’ve worked hard for 3.5 years to be able to put my family and I in a good position, and I feel like I’ve done that,” Olave said Wednesday night when he met with members of the media, per Eleven Warriors’ Griffin Strom.

“There’s a lot of blessings coming, and I’m proud of that.”

As he should be. Olave has 708 yards and 11 touchdowns on 51 receptions this season for the Buckeyes. He leads the Big Ten and the country in touchdown catches. For his career, Olave has 2,474 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns.

He ranks as the No. 16 draft prospect on ESPN’s Todd McShay’s 2022 NFL Draft big board and as the No. 22 prospect on The Athletic’s Dane Brugler’s big board. Most expect Olave to be a Day 1 pick in next April’s NFL Draft.
