Report: Absence for Purdue WR Rondale Moore may not be that long

Purdue received more bad news on Friday, learning that wide receiver Rondale Moore will not be available for Saturday’s season opener against Iowa. Add that to the fact that head coach Jeff Brohm will be at home after a positive COVID-19 test, and the chances of the Boilermakers starting the year 1-0 look slim.

But, if there’s some good news for the Boilers, it’s that both their head coach and star receiver could be back soon.

Gold and Black Illustrated’s Tom Dienhart reported on Friday that Moore is expected to return for next weekend’s game against Illinois in Champaign. Having the receiver miss just one contest in the 2020 season would be a positive for Purdue.

The Boilermakers also anticipate having Brohm back on the sideline for the first road trip of the season. Because of the positive virus test, Brohm must be in isolation for 10 days and if he tests negative and does not show any symptoms, he’ll be permitted to return to the team.

Brohm and Purdue filed a waiver for the NCAA to allow him to have communication with the coaches box during Saturday’s game at Ross-Ade Stadium. However, that appeal was denied.

Purdue and Iowa are set for a 3:30 ET kickoff on Saturday.
