At least five people are dead following a small plan crashed in the Lafayette, Louisiana area on Saturday, according to a report from WAFB 9. The flight was headed to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl game between No. 1 LSU and No. 4 Oklahoma.
WAFB 9 is reporting that at least five people have been killed after an eight-passenger plane crashed in the Lafayette area. The individuals inside the plane were headed to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl game, which is also being played on Saturday afternoon.
The plane crashed into an open field around 9 a.m., according to the report. Six people were aboard the flight.
Following the crash, there was a fire involving the plane and a vehicle. One of the passengers and three individuals on the ground were sent to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Witnesses said the plane struck a power line while attempting to make an emergency landing. There were no details about what caused the aircraft to crash. The investigation is ongoing.
