Report: B1G considering 6 schools besides Notre Dame for conference expansion

Conference realignment was certainly a hot topic during the first day of B1G Media Days on Tuesday. With UCLA and USC set to join the conference in 2024, commissioner Kevin Warren certainly didn’t rule out further expansion during his opening remarks, while cautioning that the B1G “will not expand just to expand”.
Notre Dame, currently independent in college football but a member of the B1G in hockey, has been thought of as the big prize in the realignment landscape. But there are reportedly other programs that the conference may be pursuing.
According to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, along with Notre Dame, the B1G is considering Cal, Oregon, Stanford, and Washington out of the Pac-12, and Florida State and Miami from the ACC.
While Warren didn’t comment on the reports during an interview with McMurphy, he did mention that any future member would need to “add value” to the current structure.
“A fit has to be there academically, has to be there athletically,” he said. “All those things are really important. There are a handful of schools that potentially could add value to us, but I’m so focused right now that we welcome USC and UCLA to our conference in 2024 with open arms.”
