Report: B1G still preparing for nonconference games during college basketball season

While B1G football and other fall sports have been sidelined for the time being, the conference is reportedly still planning to play nonconference games when the basketball season rolls around.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that the B1G was still “intent” on playing nonconference basketball games this season. Much like some leagues across the college football landscape, the idea of playing conference-only contests for the 2020-21 basketball season appears to be an option.
Circumstances could lead the B1G to change course, but for now, the league is planning to play its nonconference schedule.

Like most other conferences, the B1G canceled the men’s basketball tournament in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty that surrounded it. The conference played just one day (two games) before shutting down operations.
The NCAA could delay the start of the college basketball season slightly this year, pushing the opening tip-off to Nov. 25. The NCAA Division I Council is expected to vote on that date on Sept. 16.
