Report: Chris Ash reunites with Tom Herman at Texas for Red River Rivalry prep

Fired by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on September 29 after posting an 8-32 record in three-plus seasons, it appears Chris Ash has found a new way to occupy his time.
According to Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com, Ash has been in Austin, Texas since Monday helping the No. 11 Longhorns prepare for Saturday’s showdown with No. 6 Oklahoma:
Former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash has been in Austin since Monday helping Texas football coach Tom Herman and staff prepare for Oklahoma, according to my sources. Not a paid position. Ash was the co-DC at Ohio State in 2014, while Herman was the OC.

Getting his start in coaching as a graduate assistant with the Drake Bulldogs in 1997, Ash became the program’s defensive coordinator the following year. Leaving Des Moines for Ames in 2000, he spent seven seasons with Iowa State.
Ash and Herman initially met during Ash’s second stint in Ames in 2009. With Herman serving as the team’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Ash was the defensive backs coach.
The two were reunited at Ohio State in 2014, the year of the Buckeyes’ last national title. Ash shared defensive coordinator duties with Luke Fickell, now the head coach at Cincinnati, while Herman shared offensive coordinator responsibilities with Ed Warinner, now the offensive line coach at Michigan.
With Texas serving as the home team, the Sooners and Longhorns will kick it off at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas at 12:00PM ET on Saturday (FOX).
