Report: Ed Cooley inks new deal with Providence, no longer a candidate for Michigan job

Ed Cooley won’t be leaving Providence for Michigan.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Tuesday that Cooley and Providence have agreed to a new contract deal, keeping him as the leader o the Friars. That deal comes after Michigan reportedly had interest in Cooley becoming the new head coach of the Wolverines.
Cooley signed a multi-year extension, according to Rothstein. He reportedly met with Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel this week about possibly taking the job in Ann Arbor.

With Cooley out of the picture, Michigan’s options appear to be former Fab Five member and current Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard, as well as current assistant coach Luke Yuklich. Manuel is reportedly meeting with Howard on Tuesday.
Michigan is looking to replace John Beilein, who left the school after 12 seasons to be the head coach of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.
