Report: ESPN attempting to pair Al Michaels, Peyton Manning for Monday Night Football

ESPN is looking to put together an all-star broadcast team for its Monday Night Football coverage, according to a report from the New York Post.
Andrew Marchand of the New York Post is reporting that ESPN is looking to “acquire” legendary play-by-play announcer Al Michaels from NBC Sports and add him to the Monday Night Football broadcast for future NFL seasons. The top choice to join Michaels in the booth is former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Per the report, ESPN would’ve liked to add Tony Romo to the broadcast team, but the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback recently signed a 10-year, $180 million deal to stay with CBS Sports.
“Al is under contract for the foreseeable future,” NBC spokesman Greg Hughes told Marchand. ESPN did not comment on the report.
It would certainly add some intrigue to the broadcast booth for ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football games, but it may be a longshot to get both in the booth.
