It appears some NFL teams were seriously interested in getting women’s soccer star Carli Lloyd on the field.

The former Rutgers soccer star and member of the U.S. Women’s National Team made waves earlier this month when she visited the Philadelphia Eagles. Lloyd turned heads when she demonstrated her kicking strength, nailing a 55-yard field goal:

Since that time, Martin Rogers with FOX Sports is reporting that NFL teams have approached Lloyd. According to Lloyd’s trainer, James Galanis, one of those teams was even willing to get her on the field during a preseason game.

Unfortunately, the arrangement is not going to work out at this time:

“Today, she got another call from another NFL team,” Galanis told me in a telephone conversation on Monday. “The one that called today, I don’t want to say who it is, was willing to put her on the roster for their next (game). They were willing to put her on the roster.

Galanis continued: “She was told (she could) play on Thursday, the NFL game, but she is playing Thursday with the national team, so that was the conflict.”

The story went on to say that Lloyd has had half a dozen conversations surrounding the topic in the week since her kick went viral. Though it doesn’t sound like anything will happen soon, it will be interesting to see if Lloyd, or another woman, is ever able to make it onto an NFL field.
