Report: Failure to follow COVID-19 protocols to result in lost revenue for multiple SEC teams

Multiple SEC teams will see their conference revenue reduced because of a failure to follow proper COVID-19 protocols, according to a report from Alex Scarborough of ESPN.
Last week, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey sent out a memo saying that schools would see a $100,000 reduction in conference revenue distribution if they failed to follow proper COVID-19 protocols. Teams could be hit with those “fines” on a weekly basis, if they fail to follow the guidelines in place.
In the memo, which was obtained by ESPN, also stated that suspensions could be implemented.
“Do not relax — and do not let those around you relax — because of a few weeks of success,” Sankey said in the memo.
The SEC has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases that has resulted in postponements of games. This weekend, two games have already been moved to Dec. 12 due to a spike in positive results.
Missouri-Vanderbilt was the first SEC game of the season to be postponed for COVID-19-related issues. Also, No. 10 Florida announced that it would have to move its game against LSU for concerns related to the virus.
On Wednesday, Alabama head coach Nick Saban and athletic director Greg Byrne tested positive for the virus and are currently working from their homes. The No. 2 ranked Crimson Tide face No. 3 Georgia on Saturday. That game is currently still scheduled as planned.
