Report: Fifth-year DB from Michigan enters name into transfer portal

A fifth-year senior defensive back has decided to look for opportunities outside of Michigan.
Per Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News, Hunter Reynolds has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He joins wide receiver Giles Jackson as the most recent Wolverines to explore options for the upcoming 2021 season.
Reynolds was a member of Michigan’s 2017 recruiting class but did not play during his freshman season, retaining his redshirt status. He will be a graduate transfer and will still have two seasons of eligibility remaining after the NCAA granted a blanket waiver for all fall student-athletes in 2020.

Last fall, Reynolds appeared in all six games for the Wolverines, playing in the secondary and on special teams. He was credited with 16 tackles, including 1 stop for loss. In 2019, he played in 12 games but primarily on special teams.
Being one of the more experienced secondary players on the roster, Reynolds was expected to compete for a starting job on Michigan’s defense for the 2021 season. He can still return to the program if that’s in his best interest, but a low percentage of players who enter the portal take that route.
During his career in Ann Arbor, Reynolds has played in 20 games, most of those coming in a role on special teams. He’s been credited with 22 tackles, 2 of which came in the backfield.
Michigan ended the 2020 season with a 2-4 record.
