Report: Former Buckeye LB headed to Maryland

Former Ohio State linebacker KeAndre Jones is headed to Maryland, according to a report.
Jeff Erman of InsideMDSports reported on Tuesday that Jones has transferred to Maryland and is enrolled in classes for the second semester. It’s unclear whether he’ll graduate from Ohio State and be immediately eligible for the Terrapins in 2019.
A former four-star linebacker, Jones is a native of Maryland and was committed to the Terrapins’ 2016 class. Late in his recruitment, though, he flipped to the Buckeyes. Now, he’s returning home to complete his college football career under head coach Mike Locksley.
In three seasons in Columbus, Jones has appeared in 32 career games, registering 29 tackles, one sack and a blocked kick. He totaled a career-high 15 tackles in 2017 while playing in all 14 of Ohio State’s games.
Last fall, Jones totaled 10 tackles in 12 contests.
While Jones brings plenty of talent and ability to the field, he was constantly battling a slew of athletic and hard-hitting linebackers at Ohio State for playing time. If he’s immediately eligible at Maryland, he can have an instant impact defensively for the Terrapins.
The addition of Jones is also huge for Locksley, who has struggled to put together his 2019 recruiting class, and understandably so. New head coaches typically go through some growing pains on the recruiting trail in their first season.
Adding a former four-star linebacker and Maryland native is a victory for the program though. It’ll be a huge help if Jones can step on the field in 2019.
