Report: Former Illinois CB Vontae Davis retired from the NFL at halftime of Sunday’s Bills-Chargers game

Buffalo Bills cornerback and former Illinois star Vontae Davis reportedly retired from the NFL on Sunday, leaving at halftime of Sunday’s Bills-Chargers game. Multiple sources are reporting the news.
In what would truly be a bizarre situation, Mike Rodak of ESPN reported that Buffalo linebacker Lorenzo Alexander told him that Davis quit in the middle of the game and decided to retire from football. According to Chris Mortenson, Davis put on street clothes at halftime, said he was quitting and left the stadium.

Davis reportedly pulled himself from the game, told head coach Sean McDermott “I’m done” and walked to the locker room.
That’s not something you hear…well, ever.
Davis was a first round draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft after earning two-time All-B1G honors at Illinois in 2007 and 2008. In 10 years in the league, he’s racked up 395 tackles and 22 interceptions.
Prior to joining the Bills, Davis played with the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts.
At the time, there was no further explanation on what may have led to Davis’ retirement.
