Report: Former Kentucky QB Jared Lorenzen dies at 38

Former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen has died at the age of 38, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Schapp. The news was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Lorenzen was recently admitted to the hospital while battling a serious infection, as well as heart and kidney issues, according to multiple reports. His family requested privacy and prayers when he was taken to the hospital.
“I lost my sweet boy today after a long, hard fight,” Jared’s mother said in a text message to ESPN.

Lorenzen was nicknamed the “Hefty Lefty” while at Kentucky. He was a four-year starter for the Wildcats and is remembered as one of the fan favorites in Kentucky football history for his talent and unique size for the quarterback position.
In his four seasons in Lexington, Lorenzen threw for 10,354 yards and 78 touchdowns while serving as the starter from 2000-03. His best year came in 2002, when he had 2,267 passing yards and 24 touchdown passes with just five interceptions. That year, the Wildcats finished with a 7-5 record, the only season Kentucky finished above .500 in that four-year stretch.
