That’s per the New York Times’ Marc Stein, who says Beilein will join the Detroit Pistons as their director of player development.

Beilein took this year off from coaching after a one-year stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Beilein took the Cavs job in 2019 but it went south quickly, causing the two sides to part ways before the end of his first season.
Beilein, 68, was rumored to be a candidate for several college head coaching jobs but didn’t end up finding a fit. Instead, he’ll return to the NBA in a much smaller role.
This is the first time in Beilein’s coaching career that he won’t be a head coach. He was the head coach of a high school, college or pro team every season from 1975-2020.
Beilein spent 12 seasons at Michigan and made two appearances in the National Championship Game. He also led the Wolverines to two Big Ten Tournament titles. He had an overall record of 278-150.
