A former Michigan State staffer is reportedly landing a head coaching job.

ESPN is reporting that Loyola Chicago is expected to promote assistant coach Drew Valentine to the head coaching position, left vacant after Porter Moser took the job at Oklahoma. Final details have not been released at this time.

Valentine is the older brother of former Michigan State star and current Chicago Bulls wing Denzel Valentine. He has been on the Loyola Chicago staff for four seasons and was part of the Ramblers squad that reached the Final Four in 2018.

Before his time at Loyola Chicago, Valentine was a graduate assistant at Michigan State. After his time in East Lansing, he spent two seasons at Oakland as an assistant coach. Valentine played college basketball at Oakland, as well.

Moser was hired by Oklahoma after longtime head coach Lon Kruger announced his retirement following the 2020-21 season. Loyola Chicago earned a trip to the Sweet Sixteen this season.
