Report: Former Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead signs with new NFL team

Former Nebraska and New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead has reportedly signed with a new NFL team.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that the Houston Texans have signed Burkhead. He will be joining a backfield that already includes Mark Ingram, David Johnson, and Phillip Lindsay.

Burkhead, 30, spent the last four seasons with the Patriots. He had spent the 2013-16 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Burkhead was a sixth-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft and has enjoyed a solid career in the league.

For his career, Burkhead has rushed for 1,401 yards and 14 touchdowns while also totaling 1,144 yards and 8 touchdowns on 130 receptions. He was also a member of New England’s Super Bowl LIII team.

At Nebraska, Burkhead piled up 3,329 rushing yards, 507 receiving yards and accounted for 35 total touchdowns.
