Report: Former Wisconsin DB to be named new Colorado HC

Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker has been named the new head football coach at Colorado University, according to multiple reports.

Tucker, 46, played defensive back at Wisconsin from 1990-92 and then 1994. He brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Buffaloes, holding positions at Michigan State, Miami (Ohio), LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia. He’s also jumped around the NFL, coaching defensive backs and working as a coordinator for the Browns, Jaguars, and Bears between 2007-14.
Tucker followed Kirby Smart from Alabama to Georgia, where he’s been in charge of the defense since 2016. He’s coordinated some of the country’s best defenses in the country — each ranking No. 35, 11, and now 14, per the S&P+ advanced metrics.
It has not yet been reported whether he will coach Georgia during the postseason.
Tucker will replace Mike MacIntyre, who was fired with one game left on the season after losing six in a row following a 5-0 start.
