Report: High-profile transfer scheduled to meet with Illinois basketball

Former West Virginia center Oscar Tshiebwe will meet with Illinois on Friday night on Zoom, according to a report.
That’s per Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Tshiebwe was averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game when he decided to leave the Mountaineers program. As a freshman in 2019, he posted 11.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest.
It’s currently unclear why Tshiebwe decided to leave WVU so abruptly. It’s had a major impact on the Mountaineers, who have struggled with unranked Oklahoma and Oklahoma State since his departure.
According to a press release when he first left the team, Tshiebwe stepped away for “personal reasons.”
It’s possible center Kofi Cockburn’s role could help lure Tshiebwe to Illinois. Cockburn and Tshiebwe are similar players and Cockburn is proving that an impact center can succeed in a major way under coach Brad Underwood.
Tshiebwe will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Per college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Tshiebwe is also considering North Carolina State, Miami, Kentucky and Tennessee.
