Former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze will be introduced as the new leader of the Liberty football program, according to multiple reports.
On Friday morning, Brett McMurphy of Stadium reported that Freeze will be introduced as the next head coach at Liberty. There will be a news conference on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, according to the report.
The hiring comes just a few days after former Liberty head coach Turner Gill retired due to family health concerns. This will be Freeze’s first job in college football since resigning from Ole Miss prior to the 2017 season.

Freeze resigned as the head coach of the Rebels in July 2017 following what the school called “a pattern of personal misconduct inconsistent with the standards we expect from the leader of our football team.” School officials found a pattern that included phone calls to a number associated with a female escort service.
Before his time at Ole Miss came to an end, Freeze compiled a 39-25 record and guided the Rebels to four bowl games in five seasons. They were 3-1 in the postseason.
Perhaps his most impressive accomplishment was knocking off SEC and college football powerhouse Alabama in back-to-back seasons. In 2014, Ole Miss defeated Alabama 23-17 in Oxford. The following year, the Rebels downed the Tide in Tuscaloosa, winning 43-37.
Liberty is coming off its first season as an FBS program. The Flames finished the year with a 6-6 record.
