Report: In order to steal Mike Yurcich from Ohio State, Texas nearly doubled his salary

Money talks. And when it came to Texas trying to swipe Mike Yurcich away from Ohio State, the money was practically yelling.
Tom Herman was able to reel Yurcich away from Ohio State, naming him the offensive coordinator for the Longhorns during the offseason. In order to land him, though, Texas needed to make a lucrative pitch to the former Buckeye passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
According to a report from Brian Davis of the Austin American Statesman, Texas regents will approve Yurcich to receive a three-year deal worth $1.7 million annually. That’s nearly double what he was receiving at Ohio State, making $950,000 annually.
Texas regents also set to approve contract for new OC Mike Yurcich, a 3-year deal worth $1.7 million annually. DC Chris Ash gets a 2-year deal worth $800,000. Those numbers flipped from Beck/Orlando.

Yurcich was at Ohio State for just one season before leaving for Texas. Prior to arriving in Columbus, Yurcich spent six seasons at Oklahoma State as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
When Yurcich was lured away from Ohio State, head coach Ryan Day said he didn’t want to lose his quarterbacks coach, but that money was a significant factor in the decision. There’s no question that Yurcich had a pretty good reason to take the job in Austin.
