Report: Iowa State’s Matt Campbell shoots down interest in Michigan State

Matt Campbell has no interest in leaving Iowa State for Michigan State, according to a report.
The Des Moines Register reported on Wednesday that Campbell rebuked a claim that he would have interest in the job in East Lansing, after head coach Michigan State abruptly announced his resignation on Tuesday. Campbell’s name often surfaces when major jobs in college football open, based on his success with the Cyclones.
Campbell was considered to be an outside candidate for the job, but apparently he won’t be a candidate at all. From the Des Moines Register:
Matt Campbell quickly rebuffed a Michigan State overture on Tuesday after longtime Spartans coach Mark Dantonio resigned, a source with direct knowledge of the interest told the Register. The source said Campbell made it clear he had no interest in the opening, which unexpectedly came open after Dantonio stepped down amid allegations by his former recruiting coordinator that he committed NCAA recruiting violations.
Michigan State is working quickly to try and fill the vacancy, but it may not be easy. With Dantonio stepping down the day before National Signing Day, head coaches are working on wrapping up their latest recruiting classes and looking ahead to the 2020 season.
Other names that have been mentioned — most notably — have been Luke Fickell (Cincinnati), Pat Narduzzi (Pitt), Chris Creighton (Eastern Michigan), and Jim McElwain (Central Michigan), among others.
Defensive coordinator Mike Tressel is currently serving as the acting head coach for the Spartans.
