Report: Iowa’s Tyler Cook declares for NBA Draft

Athletic Iowa forward Tyler Cook will reportedly pursue a career in the NBA following his junior season with the Hawkeyes.

Scott Dochterman of The Athletic reported on Thursday that Cook is declaring for the NBA Draft with no plans to return to Iowa City for his senior season. Cook also tested the waters a year ago but removed his name from the draft before the deadline, allowing him to continue his college career.

Cook finished the 2018-19 season averaging 14.5 poins and 7.6 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories.

It’s not just Cook’s stat line that makes him appealing to the NBA. The forward has good size and athleticism that would fit in well with several franchises. He’s demonstrated his athleticism throughout his collegiate career with several highlight reel plays.

This season, Cook helped lead the Hawkeyes to a 23-12 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Iowa defeated Cincinnati in the first round before falling to Tennessee in the Round of 32.

Cook registered over 1,300 points and 600 rebounds in three years with the Hawkeyes.
