The MAC is making some slight changes to the way its teams prepare for games for the upcoming season as a way to help cut costs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a report from the Toledo Blade, the MAC will trim its travel roster size to 70 players for conference games. That’s a reduction from the previous limit of 76.

In addition, the league will also not have its teams staying in hotels the night before a home game. It’s been a common practice for college football teams to stay in a nearby hotel even for home games as a way to cut down distractions in the hours before a contest.

Recently, the MAC has taken major steps in reducing the cost of athletics. The league has also announced that eight sports will be eliminating conference championship tournaments: men’s or women’s soccer, baseball, softball, men’s or women’s tennis, women’s lacrosse, and women’s field hockey.

Men’s and women’s basketball will also see changes to the conference tournament, with the elimination of the first-round home games. Instead, the top eight teams will compete at a neutral-site location.
