Report: Michigan State basketball returns to practice following COVID-19 outbreak

Michigan State’s men’s basketball program returned to practice for the first time in nearly two weeks on Monday, according to a report.
That’s per the Detroit News’ Matt Charboneau, who says a team spokesman confirmed that the Spartans were able to practice for the first time since Jan. 13.

Michigan State hasn’t played a game since a Jan. 8 loss to Purdue at home.
However, barring another setback, Michigan State appears to be on track to face Rutgers on Thursday — 20 days since its last game.
There have been at least six positive tests within the program over that span, including four players.
So far this season, Michigan State is 8-4 overall but 2-4 in Big Ten play. The Spartans are currently on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament picture.
The Spartans were one of Joe Lunardi’s “Last Four In” in his latest Bracketology update. That would require Michigan State to win a play-in game in Dayton to qualify for the field of 64.
According to KenPom.com, the situation is a bit more dire. The Spartans are currently ranked No. 44 on KenPom and don’t have a top 40 offense or defense.
Tip off against Rutgers is at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday.
