Thorson was previously the head coach at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis for 23 years before making a jump to the next level. He has been an assistant coach at Drake and Colorado State.
Kemp has made stops at multiple colleges in his coaching career. He’s had stops at William & Mary, Ohio, Toledo and North Dakota State at the Division I level.
Minnesota finished the 2020-21 season with a 14-15 record, missing the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. At the end of the year, the school terminated Richard Pitino and a week later hired Johnson to be the next leader of the program.
