The Minnesota Golden Gophers are reportedly going to be offering financial support to student-athletes for academic success this fall. Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported on the news.

This comes after an NCAA rule change allowed universities to do so in 2020. ESPN stated that 22 of the 130 FBS schools are planning on doing the same, just like the Golden Gophers. For context, the University of Minnesota’s Athletics Department stated that its student-athletes had a cumulative GPA of 3.44 in the 2021 spring semester. This set a new school record.

Greder posted about the news from his Twitter account on Friday morning.

It’ll be interesting to see how much money is approved to give to student-athletes who have academic success.
